WILLAM BERRY, 18
William began learning the piano from a young age, and was taught initially by Elizabeth Marrison, then Ludwig Treviranus and later Gillian Bibby. He completed all levels of his piano examinations up to licentiate with the highest grades available.
William was a semi-finalist in the 2018 NZ Junior Piano Competition and reached the finals in the 2020 competition. He has won many local IRMTNZ competitions, winning the 15 and over Sonata Celebration in both 2019 and 2020, along with winning the Senior Recital in 2020. He was a finalist in the NZSM Concerto Competition in 2021, playing Liszt’s Second Piano Concerto. He also received a pianoforte PACANZ nomination in 2021.
William has just finished his first year of studying towards a double degree in piano and mathematics at Victoria University, Wellington and is taught by Jian Liu. Aside from piano performance, William enjoys composing his own music and plays the saxophone as a second instrument.
