LEWIS EADY
NATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION 2021

PRESENTED BY LEWIS EADY CHARITABLE TRUST

2 - 5 SEPTEMBER 2021

NEW DATES: 10-12 FEBRUARY 2022

PRELIMINARY ADJUDICATOR: HUW WATKINS (UK)
COMPETITION ADJUDICATOR:
TERENCE DENNIS (NZ)

2021 sees the partnering of two New Zealand icons to deliver national competitions:  The Lewis Eady National Piano Competition and the National String Competition presented by the Hill Family Foundation for Art and Music.

The Lewis Eady National Piano Competition will bring together 15 of New Zealand's best young pianists for an intensive and inspiring week of music-making.

Since 2013, this biennial competition has inspired, surprised and delighted music enthusiasts, and has successfully launched the careers of many Kiwi artists, including Jason Bae (Steinway Artist) and Somi Kim (NZTrio).

Each competitor will perform two 30-minute recital programmes of their choice. The repertoire must include a work by a New Zealand composer. The adjudicator will select three competitors to compete in the Grand Final on Sunday 5 September, held this year at the Diocesan School for Girls' Performing Arts Centre in conjunction with the National String Competition.

Be part of the journey - join us and watch the bright future of classical music unfold.

Notes for making a good audition video:

  1. Please choose a room/venue for the video recording that doesn't have a lot of reverb for better clarity of sound.

  2. We strongly recommend microphones be placed 3-5 metres away from the performer. Closer or further proximity can often obscure sound quality.

  3. The camera must remain still from the beginning to the end of the selection. The artist's face and both arms and hands must be visible at all times.

  4. Any indication of editing within any video will disqualify the application.

  5. Videos that are unplayable, inaudible, or faulty such that the judges cannot evaluate the performance will disqualify the application.

  6. High-quality audio will enable the judges to better evaluate the performance.
